A Letter From Savita Sharma, Director of Family Support Services

Important Camp 2022-23 Update
Dear Camper and Camper Families,

Savita SharmaI am so pleased to share that we will be opening Camp Loyaltown for the 2023 season. Your support and patience are deeply appreciated. To arrive at this point, we undertook a multi-faceted review of last season’s challenges—not only safety measures but our response to those challenges and how we can better partner with families.

To move forward with the 2023 season, we needed to assess three critical areas—camper-to-staff ratios, the medical complexities/requirements of campers, and the overall competency of the staff. We have been actively recruiting staff and reconnecting with former employees, as we know that experienced staff are competent staff.

The outcome of this process is that we need to make the very difficult decision of reducing the number of enrolled campers. After careful consideration of each camper’s needs/requirements, our admission decisions will be based solely on our ability to provide a safe environment for each camper.

Camp Application Update
Camp Loyaltown’s application will open at 9:00 am on Wednesday, December 14, on CampDocs. Please note this is the same application platform as last year. To support the application process, please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on Camp’s website. If you have further questions, please email camp@citizens-inc.org.

Your Care Manager can help with completing the application by supplying the necessary information. Also, please ensure the contact information for your Care Manager is included with the application so that our Camp team can follow up, if needed.

Once the application is submitted, the Camp team will begin their review and reach out should any additional information/clarification be needed.  Please note:  Applications are only reviewed for admission once all materials are received.  Please see our FAQ website page under “When is the Camp Application Due” tab for a complete listing of required documents.

Once the application is complete, it will be reviewed to make an admission determination.  The decision time varies, but our goal is to let the person coming to camp and families know an admission decision as quickly as possible for planning purposes.

Respite Weekend Update

We understand that reducing the number of campers will mean that there will be children and adults who love Camp, who will not be able to attend this summer. We want you to know that Camp Loyaltown offers respite weekends year-round (except during camp season). Early small-group sessions begin in May 2023. If you would like to know more about respite at Camp Loyaltown, please email camp@citizens-inc.org or contact: 1 516 293 2016 ext 5165

Our goal throughout this process has been to offer a safe summer experience for campers and needed respite for families. Thank you for your understanding and support over the past three years and now as we grow into our 2023 Camp season.

Kind regards,

Savita Sharma, Director of Family Support Services
